Green Career Seekers Researching Your Green Career Options:

Boost Your Credibility, Visibility, and Employability
Research Your Green Industry to Discover How Best to
Communicate Your Value to Employers

Are you struggling to figure out where your skills will be of value within your chosen green industry?

Are you trying to figure out what training you need to excel in your field?

Are you wondering which green / clean / sustainable employers are hiring people with your experience?

If these questions reflect what you are experiencing, it's likely you don't have enough information about your industry to prepare for your new career, network effectively, or demonstrate your credibility during interviews and networking conversations.

Without a clear understanding of your target industry...you have no hope of
convincing potential employers that
you are the right candidate for the job.

This is especially true in the green economy.

As industries continue to emerge and evolve, it's impossible to rely on common knowledge to figure out which positions, training options and employers to target.

When you understand how your target green industry is structured, your job search takes on a new momentum.

When you see how your skills fit within your target industry you are in a much better position to prepare for your new career and to launch a targeted job search.

Shorten Your Path with Our Green Economy Map

In 2007 when we started creating Green Career Central, we were thrilled when we found ONE green article a day!

Back then many of the articles we found were focused on making personal lifestyle changes rather than political news, industry innovations, new goals and guidelines, and success stories. Solid information about the green economy was very hard to come by.

Fast Forward to Today

Now, just a few years later, there's a never-ending barrage of green / clean / sustainable information coming out on a daily basis!

Now the challenge isn't finding information, it's:

  • Sifting through it all to find credible, solid information

  • Organizing what we find so it's easy to access

  • Updating the information and resource as new frontiers are born

To help you gain the insights you need about your industry, we have created an interactive Green Economy Map that gives you easy access to carefully selected resources that are organized by industry and updated regularly.

"Can't I Find All This on My Own?"

Sure, anyone can use a search engine to do searches to find information about green industries.

But before you try that...let me pose a few questions...

Do you know the best key words to use in your research?

We do, in fact we include these lists on the industry profiles within the Green Economy Map.

Do you know enough about your target green industry to be able to synthesize all the pieces of information you are collecting?

We provide a clear overview of each industry so you get your bearings quickly and efficiently.

When I wrote up the 50 industry profiles for Green Careers For Dummies, I had to create a simple, easy-to-grasp overview as well as a statement about the current status of the industry and a few forecasts for the future trends. To do this level of research I generally spent 3-7 concentrated hours to wrap my mind around how to frame the industry, what to include, and what not to include. Our researcher and industry trackers spend anywhere from 20-40 hours creating our full industry profiles.

We invest this time and effort so you have a reliable, cohesive jumping off point for your own research. You will need to use your Google skills to do your own research, but you'll begin with a general understanding and framework of how the industry works. This foundation of knowledge gives you a huge head start!

Do you know the history of the industry to evaluate new trends and future trends?

To assess your career options you must understand the context of your target green industry – political climate, regional trends, technological innovations, funding trends, and industry forecasts.

We discover new information every day, every week, layering it on the foundation of what we already know about the green industries.
