Step 4: Combine Your Options

Although the information we've given you is laid out in a linear fashion, most people's thought processes seldom unfold that way. Nor do the major decisions in life come in neat packages. So, don't be hard on yourself if you don't see a clear path right away.

Try to look at your options from a different point of view. Look at the paths that are most relevant to you at this time. Ask Yourself: Could I combine several paths to reach my goal?

Here are a few options you could consider.

Combining Paths
If: Then:
You are not completely comfortable with your direction.
• Volunteer to test your career idea and gain experience.
• When you've confirmed you are heading in the right direction, look at possible education options to strengthen your position.
• Launch your job search.
You know what you want to do
• Focus on your green education.
• Volunteer for a friend or a contact to build your experience.
• Launch your job search.
You want to start a business.
• Volunteer in your community to build your network.
• Start your business.
• Continue to volunteer to reach your marketing goals.

Although it is tempting to start your job search NOW, we encourage you to clarify and verify your direction first.
